Zuko looked into the faces of his advisors, friendly and foul, and was reminded again about the reality of Fire Nation politics. Most of this group of men hated him. They hated that he had ended the war, and they hated all the changes he was making. He could not trust them, but he needed their support. Through their estates and assets, they indirectly controlled the Fire Nation, and could bring the economy down around his ears. Not that it wasn't already in shambles he sighed wearily. Zuko rubbed his temples in an attempt to banish the heard of ostrich-horses that were stampeding across his skull. If someone had warned him how difficult this job was, he would've been more insistent that his uncle take back his birthright. Unfortunately, the retired general was wiser and cleverer than his nephew and had successfully convinced the teenager to take the throne. Zuko noted that he had yet to exact revenge for that.

When she was thirteen, Akeo had dared her to switch from her horse to Leandra's horse, at a gallop, without s

The Legend of the Phoenix
"Daddy, tell us the story of the Phoenix again," Renata said, a beg in her tone.
"Again? I tell that story to you all the time!"
"We love it."
Leandra nodded, and hugged her stuffed sky bison. She was just three, and didn't talk much. It wasn't that she was shy, she just didn't feel like there was anything that needed to be said. Many parents would have been frightened by her behavior, but the Fire Lord wasn't because he had done the exact same thing when he was her age.
"Okay." So Fire Lord Zuko began telling the Legend of the Phoenix to his two princesses.
Once upon a time, many years ago, two firebende
